Yellowhammer Furniture & how we work;
Yellowhammer furniture specialises in making one-off, high-end, bespoke pieces of wooden furniture. Based just outside Edinburgh, near the small retail vilage of Fenton Barns, each piece is individually handcrafted by Yellowhammers founder Seonaid Denholm.
Being a commision based business Yellowhammer furnitures main aim is to guarantee customer satisfication. Whether you have lots of ideas about the piece of furniture you wish to commision or just need something to fit in an empty space, Yellowhammer furniture will work with you to design a piece of furniture that meets your needs, as practically and aesthetically as possible. Whilst we cant give you an exact price of the piece of furniture until we have finalised the design, we will always try and give you a rough idea of price and timescale before the design process starts, if dimensions and material are established early enough.
The design process
The design is a combination of all you prefrences and specifications collated into one drawing to create your unique piece of furniture. This can often be done without a visit to its final location, but if it is a fitted piece, or larger piece a visit to its destination location will be required (especially if there are narrow staircases/doorways).
The design is generally done on CAD software and communicated to the customer via email, but if one requires a different method then Yellowhammer Furniture is happy to accomadate for this. We also encourage as much feed back on the intial design as possible, your likes, your dislikes; essentially we want to make you that piece of furniture that you will enjoy using and enjoy looking at.
The Final design & Production
Once a final design is agreed, a full written confirmation of what the design is to entail, delivery cost, terms and conditions and timescale will be sent to you. On reciept of deposit (usually 50%) materials will be ordered and production will be booked into Yellowhammers diary. Workshop visits are available or if you are unable to visit we are also happy to update you on progress with photos.
At yellowhammer furniture, we pride ourselves in hand selecting (where possible) timber for projects. In an effort to support local buisnesses we also always try to source timber from local sawmillers. Below are our most popular woods;
Walnut (plantation grown)
Mahogany (plantation grown)
Veneer (many wood varieties available)
Laminated birch A grade plywood
(we dont work in mdf)
We are also all to happy to encorporate other materials into design, and where need be will work alongside the local blacksmiths etc.
